What kind of attitude do you choose?

Attitude can change - and drive - everything! | TheEssentialWebsite.com

“One of the most important steps you can take toward achieving your greatest potential in life is to learn to monitor your attitude and its impact on your work performance, relationships and everyone around you.”

I grabbed that quote from SUCCESS magazine, and it couldn’t be more true! Attitude really IS everything. And you know what else – YOU choose your own attitude!

So, what kind of attitude do you choose?

Positive, good, happy, uplifting, half-full?
Negative, bad, sad, Debbie Downer, half-empty?

Hmmm – let’s see…clearly one type of attitude will take you far in life, and one will hold you back! The choice should be pretty obvious, yet we still sometimes get stuck in negative-ville.

Case in point: I was chatting with a friend the other day who is going through some troubling times. I reminded her once again that when you face the inevitable fork in the road, if you keep choosing the one that’s causing or exacerbating the trouble, your results will be the same. If you want something to change – YOU MUST CHANGE (your thoughts, your actions, your attitude – SOMETHING!).

Back in 2011, I was wrongfully terminated from a job. And this wasn’t just any job. This was a job I LOVED. I had even just gotten a raise and an excellent review only a few weeks before the horrific day.

When in happened, I allowed myself to cry, vent, contact an attorney, etc. But I literally said to myself a couple days after it happened (still in shock, still crying, still venting, and having just started the legal process), “Stefi – you have two choices: (1) you can either lay in bed and pull the sheets over your head or (2) you can channel that angry energy and start your job search…and do whatever it takes to get out of this slump.”

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. ~Winston Churchill

I chose #2 immediately! Again, I was still FURIOUS…and in fact, I still have bouts of anger related to the person and the situation because it was just so insanely horrific (yes, it affected me that much). But, I needed to pay the bills and protect myself emotionally.

A while back (I can’t remember if it was after that situation or at some other time), someone said the funniest thing to me, and it was actually the greatest compliment. She said, “Stefani, you’re the only person I know who can land in a pile of shit and come out smelling like roses.”

I thought, “WOW – thank you!”

Trust me, I have some feelings of negativity at times. I’m human! But, whenever possible, I take the positive approach, and I SWEAR it helps! The type of attitude you have (or project) is truly a CHOICE, and it’s a choice that only YOU have the POWER to choose!

What do YOU think?

  • Do you think your attitude is really that powerful?
  • Have you ever purposely taken a positive view/approach/mindset and seen the effects of your choice?

Agree. Attitude is key to success, with the proper attitude you can achieve anything, definitely, you will be happier.
I like to say that the empty glass is where opportunity is, if it half full you cannot choose how to fill it. Obviously, I also have my bad days but I tried to remember that the only thing I can control is my attitude and I try to choose a positive attitude, being angry is not useful.
    So, Positive Power!

Attitude is everything! I’ve found I can change the course of my day by changing my attitude and my outlook. Great reminder!
